US persons, including green card holders and US tax residents, must file FinCEN Form 114 (FBAR) if the combined value of their foreign financial accounts was more than $10,000 at any time during the year. It is filed online with FinCEN, due April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15.

For an unmarried taxpayer living in the US, the threshold is more than $50,000 on the last day of the year or more than $75,000 at any time during the year; it is higher for married couples filing jointly. Form 8938 does not replace the FBAR; you may need both.

Without them, you may still be treated as a Brazilian tax resident. Ask an accountant who knows both countries.
